Fall Fun Day

Children gathered at the library for a fun day of doing crafts, reading, and playing together.  They created their own mask to wear for this photo op.  The library staff want to thank Glenda Killen, Mary Erdely, Janice Welsh, and all the parents and grandparents who brought their children.
Our next Fun Day at the Library will be December 13th.

Today is our First Anniversary.  It's hard to believe we have been in our new building for a year.  Time passes too fast.  This past year has been wonderful by all means.  The public response to the new library has been overwhelming.  We offer many more activities and a larger selection of books, movies, and audio books.
The board of trustees and staff are looking forward to serving their patrons in the coming years.  We hope to see you soon.  Thank you for your support.  We do appreciate "YOU".

Visit from artist Max Hayslette

Artist Max Hayslette gave a surprise visit to our library September 5th.  Max was born in Rupert and completed his studies at the Art Institute of Chicago. He currently resides in the Seattle, WA area.  When Max heard that Mina Shafer had given the Hardware store to the Town of Rupert stipulating it be the public library he wanted to be a part of the renovation project.  He emailed the director telling her that he wanted to donate three original oil paintings for the purpose of raising funds because he had a place in his heart for Rupert.  The paintings raised $14,000.  The painting of George Washington, seen in this picture,  is very outstanding.  The title of the painting is "George and the Boogie Woogie"  We didn't know our blue wall and cranberry colored chair would be a perfect match for the painting.
The library director was so glad to meet Mr. Hayslette and share a few moments with him talking about his early life and his life now that he is 85 years "young".  He is still painting and enjoys good health.
See you at the library

Friday 08/08/2014

The library was busy again this week.  We enjoy having a play time in our children's room for children 5 and under on Thursdays' each week in August.  Thanks to Nancy for heading this up.  The librarian added many new children's and young adult books to our collection.  We're looking forward to more interesting and fun times next week as the WV State Fair will be in full swing.  Be sure and check out the Literacy tent at the fair on Wednesday.  They will have free children's books to give out and also fun "things" to learn and do.  Have a nice weekend and hope to see you at the new library beside City National Bank soon.

Library Blue Canopy

Today was a big day for our library.  We now have a Large Blue Canopy on the front of the library building.  This matches the smaller canopy we have at our side entrance.

Summer reading party

Our Summer Reading program ended July 30th with a wonderful party.  The Clintonville VFD chief and assistant chief came to visit in their big red fire truck.  They showed the truck to all the children and adults and then gave a lesson on fire safety.  Danny and Sue came from Beckley to tell us great stories.  All 23 children were given prizes and books.  Dakota Parker won a free day at the WV State Fair.  Michael Cook won some books for reading the most books.  Of course delicious refreshments were enjoyed by all.  "Oh, what a wonderful day we had!"

On West Virginia Day, June 20th, we displayed our West Virginia State flag which was given to us by George Ambler, one of our House of Delegate members serving Greenbrier County.  We highlighted many of our West Virginia books, and many of our local artists.
